Overclocking i5 4690K on the Asus Z97M-Plus
Overclocking i5 4690K on the Asus Z97M-Plus
Hi, the Asus Z97M-Plus seems suitable for the Intel Core i5 4690K. It should work well with the Cooler Master Nepton 240M cooling solution. For overclocking, you should be able to reach its full potential while keeping safety in mind. Since you're new to Intel overclocking, it might help to get some guidance. P.S. Regarding the VRM performance for overclocking, it looks adequate.
It may not be the best board for overclocking but you can still achieve a decent overclock with it.
I have the same motherboard and cpu, I run my cpu at 4.5ghz at 1.248v.
Just remember that every cpu is different so you may need more or less volts.

Do you have any alternative board options that are MATX compatible?

Hi, which board stands out among these three options?
MSI Z97M-G43
ASRock Z97M Pro4
Asus Z97M-PLUS
I’d recommend Asus. A "4+1" design isn’t a guarantee of strong overclocking, unless you’re aiming for maximum performance. Other aspects matter too.
At around 4.4GHz, stability is solid for most users. I’m skeptical about reaching over 4.6GHz, though. For real-world results, start with a default overclocking profile and see how it holds up.
Remember, the gap between 4.6GHz turbo and 4.4GHz is likely just a few percent at best, depending on the software you run. If you adjust settings for full-core usage and lower the CPU voltage, you might hit a good balance. Don’t chase extremes here.
