Overclocking i5 4690k
Overclocking i5 4690k
Hi. Please find my questions below.
What is the highest safe voltage for the i5 4690k? I aim to run this CPU continuously for at least seven years. What are the current conditions, and are they acceptable?
Right now I’m upgrading to a 4.3ghz clock speed with a 1.2024 vcore (adaptive/auto voltage mode) on Intel Speedup technology. The maximum temperature stays at 62°C.
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k
GPU: MSI GTX 1070 Armor
Motherboard: ASRock H81M-VGS4
RAM: 12GB DDR3 APACER & Crucial
Storage: ADATA SU800 128GB
Power: Coolermaster 650W
Case: Liquidmaster 120 Lite
Are these settings enough to force the CPU voltage and speed beyond safe limits?
Is this motherboard suitable for overclocking in override mode?
H81 motherboards were limited to overclocking the Pentium G3258 only. The MSI H81 I owned didn’t support manual voltage adjustments beyond that processor, though it did permit frequency multiplier tweaks. The maximum voltage is 1.4v, but 1.35v is usually safer. This setup wouldn’t work with an H81 board. Your current performance is near optimal for the H81, and you managed around 4.3GHz with a 4690K during Prime95 tests. Going to 4.4GHz or higher would likely cause crashes due to insufficient voltage. Z87 and Z97 boards are better suited for overclocking 4th-gen Intel CPUs.

For lasting performance, it’s best to maintain lower voltage settings.
