Hello!
I'm just starting out with the forums and overclocking. I recently chose to boost my GPU, possibly even the CPU.
My laptop is a Eurocom Shark 3 running on Clevo w355ss with an I5 4210m, a GTX 860m with 2GB of VRAM (Maxwell), and an 8GB RAM-1866, though my CPU doesn't support that memory size.
I have a few questions:
1) What should I understand about overclocking besides the risks?
2) Which software should I use? Someone mentioned EVGA.
3) What's the best and safe increase in performance?
4) Which benchmarks should I run before and after?
EDIT: I tried to log my temperatures. Idle is between 49-55°C, and after an hour of playing GTA V at high settings the temperature reached 83°C. I used GPU-Z for recording.

Don't push the performance beyond what's intended for this device.
