Overclocking doesn't make any sense.
Overclocking doesn't make any sense.
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed my recent attempts at overclocking, but it hasn't gone well. I tried setting the multiplier to 44 yesterday, though I don't remember the voltage—maybe it was 1.2XX. When I turned on the PC and opened Task Manager, the performance tab showed a speed of 5.5, but during a stress test it reported 4.4. Which readings should I trust? What settings did I change and which ones are important?
Exactly what are you OCing?
A multiplier of 44 should be correct, but it relies on your base clock (BCLK).
BCLK * Multiplier (go figure) = frequency.
That's really simple.
4500000000 / 44 equals 102272727.272.
My BCLK is 102 and my multiplier is 44.
When my CPU is under full load, my frequency comes out to 4.5GHz.
I have a minimal voltage offset for stability.
Does that make any sense?
Which overclocking guides have you used? Or did you skip them entirely? I've checked forums, Reddit, and other communities, but it doesn't seem logical. I finally figured it out—my setup is at 4.4 and it actually lists 4.4, though I'm at 1.3V. The specs are i5-4690k @4.4 (hope it stays stable), z97 Msi gaming 5, G.Skill Ripjaws x series (2x8). If 1.3V is high but it's working, should I lower it in small steps of 0.05?
