I'm just starting out in the PC gaming scene. Last year I bought a CyberPower PC (link) Although I understand it's better to build rather than buy, I didn't have much experience with computers, so I thought it would be wise to start with a small setup and learn as I go. Up until now, I've installed a GeForce GTX 970 (link), a thermaltake TR2 600W power supply, and upgraded my CPU to an AMD FX6300 because I felt my old FX4300 was limiting my GPU performance. I'm aware that my GPU is already overclocked. I use Valley Benchmark (GT from 720 to GTX 970 significantly improved my results) to test how many frames I can achieve with my rig. When I try to boost my core and memory clocks by 125 or 100Mhz, the program still runs smoothly, but I notice no noticeable improvement. My GPU clock is currently at 1442MHz (according to GPU-z). Could the motherboard be restricting my system, or am I overclocking incorrectly? Thanks for your advice.

You're facing a CPU bottleneck. Overclocking your 970 doesn't help because its performance can't reach 100% even at stock settings. The FX6300 isn't particularly powerful for gaming, and it's not significantly faster than the 4300 in most scenarios.

It might require more CPU optimization than GPU tuning, and you might not be able to achieve it using a ready-made solution.

I sensed it was going to be my case, possibly due to my weak MOBO as well. I aimed for a much better upgrade like the I7-6700K, but that would require changing my MOBO and then rebuilding everything with new hardware and a case. Also, could you clarify why you immediately thought it was my CPU?

Also, could you make it clearer why I immediately pointed that out? Basically, the FX6300 isn't suitable for gaming unless you overclock it. The 970 remains solid for 1080p.
