Hi guys,
I’m trying to adjust the PCIe frequency settings on my AMD FX 8320 and have some questions.
Here are my main details:
- CPU: AMD FX 8320
- GPU: GTX 970
- Power supply: Ocz SXS2 600W
- Motherboard: Asus M5A97 r2.0
Right now I’m using PCIe frequency set to AUTO (ideal range is 100-150) and spread spectrum on Auto.
I’m wondering if changing the PCIe frequency to 100 and disabling spread spectrum would be beneficial, as some guides suggest doing so.
Also, keep in mind that I’ve already increased my GPU’s settings using MSI Afterburner:
- Memory frequency +430 MHz
- Core clock +130 MHz
- Temp limit 80
- Power limit 110
no voltage changes.
Could you confirm what effect a fixed PCIe frequency of 100 would have in the BIOS for overclocking? Will my core clock revert to 100 from 130?
Thanks for your help!

PCIE Frequency - The standard setting is 100MHz, increasing it enhances texture loading speeds (thanks to quicker data transfer and more bandwidth via the PCIe bus). However, the main issue could arise if you set it too high, causing audio problems or hard drive failures. Adjusting it slightly back usually resolves the problem. Safe settings typically range from 105 to 110MHz. Some systems may handle higher speeds without issues, while others are limited to around 110MHz. The link below features insights from users with AMD systems who have experienced PCIe overclock benefits.

ezskills: PCIE Frequency - The default is 100MHz,raising this improves texture loading times across the board (due to faster data speeds and increased available bandwidth over the PCIE bus) the worse thing that could happen is you raise it too high and your sound stop working or your Hdd crash then all you have to do is lower it a bit and your system will be fine "safe" settings for this are between 105 - 110MHz it's just alot of trail and error some systems could go higher with no problems and others cant go past 110mhz the link below is people who has Amd systems and PCIe overclock benefits Thanks for reply. But the thing is, that I don`t want to touch PCIe in the BIOS - for now is set on AUTO. But, as I am overclocking my CPU via multiplayer, I am a bit concerned that this AUTO will cause fluctuation of PCIe to high values. I would change this on 100 mhz, but as I wrote, I used MSI Afterburner to overclocked my GTX 970....and I am a bit worry, that when I change PCIe in the BIOS for fixed number (like 100), it won`t allow MSI Afterburner to overclock GPU. MSI Afterburner Overclock GPU with software settings, so when there will be hard setting made in BIOS, it wont allow to overclock GPU by MSI after system starts?
