Overclocking at 9700k frequency
Hey there, new to overclocking! I followed a tutorial aiming for 5.0 across all cores and started at 1.3v. I managed to bring it down to 1.275v, but I'm unsure if it's fully stable or if I should push further. Temperatures are holding steady around 30°C during idle and maxing out at about 65°C—no crashes so far. I've only tried AIDA64 for testing, but from what I've read, it isn't ideal for this purpose. What advice would you give? You might want to try another benchmark or check different settings next. Your specs look solid though—good start!
AIDA64 isn't powerful enough for stress testing. I managed to run it overnight on my i5 9600K but it failed after just 10 minutes while gaming. Cinebench R20 didn’t provide enough data, and Timespy was more challenging for the GPU. Right now I have an i7 9700K overclocked at 5Ghz and 1.310V without AVX Offset. I tested Prime95 26.6 for non-AVX scenarios and OCCT for AVX testing. Blender is also useful for monitoring realistic temperatures because it can run for hours and supports AVX instructions.
Refers to Prime95 26.6 that doesn't leverage AVX. Recent releases handle higher temperatures. Cinebench serves as a quick test rather than a demanding CPU stress test. On my old i5 9600K, I could run both Cinebench R15 and R20 at 5.1Ghz repeatedly, but achieving stable 5.0Ghz was difficult without overheating, so I settled for 4.9Ghz.
It seems the problem lies with temperature management, not necessarily stability. The processor worked fine, but there wasn’t enough cooling to handle its performance.
