Hello,
I’m just starting out with overclocking and have recently assembled my first PC. I’ve been using Prime95 for some time now, and I’ve found a stable setting at 4.3 Ghz with a Vcore of 1.232 V on my i5 6600k. Through Core Temp, my temperatures stayed mostly between 55°C and a few degrees higher, but occasionally dipped into the low 60s before rising again. I’m curious if the Vcore I have is too high for this frequency. I know systems vary, but I think there’s a safe range where overclocking works reliably at certain speeds. Could it be that my voltage is pushing it too far? Should I gradually lower it? Or are these values acceptable for my CPU? Additionally, what realistic overclock possibilities exist for my setup—air cooling included—and what Vcore range would keep everything stable? I’ve listed the components I’m using: i5 6600k Skylake, ASUS ROG Maximus Ranger VIII board, CoolerMaster 212 EVO cooler, and HAF X Full Tower.
i don't have your cpu, but in my view, your vcore seems quite suitable for 4.3ghz on skylake, and the temperature is ideal for an OC system.
However, I recommend running OCCT to verify stability.
My machine is quite old—an [email protected] with a vcore of 1.3625v runs stably.
Using IBT gives me around 1.335v for stability, while Prime95 and Realbench perform well at 1.425v and 1.575v respectively.
When testing with OCCT, everything works smoothly at 1.575v but can run fine at 1.3625v.
From IBT, 95, Realbench, all systems are functioning properly.
I’m still new to OC, but as long as my vcore stays below 1.375v–1.4v, I’m good to go with any vcore; the temperature is around 73°C during full load at 1.3625v.
