Overclocking AMD FX-8370?
I'm looking to boost my CPU (fx8370) but I'm unsure if my motherboard is suitable. Here are my current specs: AMD FX 8370 with WRAITH cooler, MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT OC, Asrock 970 extreme3 (latest beta), 12GB RAM. Stress test link provided. Can someone assist?
The 4+1 VRM configuration works, but the board doesn't technically handle the 125W 8370 CPU. It's unlikely the CPU would run smoothly at standard settings, and your stress test shows it's struggling. This suggests the issue is with the VRM throttling rather than the CPU itself.
You should probably attempt a slight overclock — it won’t cause damage — but you’ll face restrictions from the motherboard, which has a relatively weak setup for the voltage regulator modules. I wouldn’t anticipate extraordinary results, nor would I spend money on this platform to become a better overclocker.

The setup with 4+1 VRM is challenging because the board doesn't officially support the 125w 8370. The CPU likely wouldn't run stably at standard clocks and voltages, but your stress test shows it's struggling. It seems the VRM is throttling under load. The HW monitor might also be inaccurate for FX CPUs. I'm still learning about this stuff.
The current motherboard isn't adequate, and using funds in 2019 solely to overclock a CPU on a system that was outdated by 2015 would be a wasteful decision. Resources meant for upgrading such an obsolete platform should instead be directed toward more substantial improvements.
I aim to increase my CPU speed but I'm unsure if my components are suitable for that (especially the motherboard). Here are my computer details: AMD FX 8370 (with WRAITH cooler), MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT OC, Asrock 970 extreme3 (latest beta), 12GB RAM. Stress test link provided. Please assist me. Don't waste time on overclocking with that weak board.
