I have a Core i7 12700K, an Asus ROG Strix Z690-E board, Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB DDR5 at 5600MHz, an Evga RTX 3080 Ti, Corsair RM1000x power supply, two 980 Pro M.2 2TB drives, a Corsair H150i AIO, ten Corsair fans and controllers. My concern is about the RAM overclocking. The default speed is 4000MHz, but the system should run at 5600MHz. After updating the BIOS for this motherboard, I enabled the XMP profile for 5600MHz. Once restarted, the machine went through a debug process five times and then displayed “failed bios check.” Pressing F1 continued until it reached the login screen. Every restart followed the same sequence, until I reset the BIOS back to the default setting of 4000MHz. I looked into the matter and found that the board supports this RAM, though the 12700K only recognizes up to 4800MHz. Changing the manual overclock profile in the Asus BIOS to 4800MHz also produced the same issue. After reverting back to default and booting again, it worked properly. I have the RAM installed in slots 1 and 3; I suspect it should be in slots 2 and 4. Could this be the root cause? Is there something missing in my configuration or is this a known problem Asus is still working on? Any advice would be appreciated.
All DDR5 boards function as daisy chains, and placing memory in incorrect slots can prevent booting or limit performance to very low speeds.
I'm testing different configurations but finding the optimal one is still unclear. I'm currently using 5000MHz out of a 5600MHz graded set. To reach higher voltages, I need to adjust settings in Ai Tweaker—specifically changing the High DRAM voltage mode to enabled. I have an Asus Z690-P with four Corsair CL36 5600MHz sticks installed on an i9-12900K processor, powered by a 1000W PSU with XMP profile. The RAM settings are set to 1 Dram frequency at 5000MHz DRAM VDD, with 1.45 DRAM VDDQ and Advanced Memory Voltages via PMIC. All other parameters remain unchanged.
