Sure, you can try boosting your X51 R2's performance by upgrading to an Intel Core i5-4440 which supports higher clock speeds. Make sure the motherboard and chipset support those frequencies before proceeding.

I pushed my 8700 and 9400 to higher speeds, but the improvement was minimal and didn’t justify the effort.

You could really boost the clock speed with a good motherboard and proper cooling (even on VRMs). But if you invest in an unlocked CPU, you’d likely be able to push it further. TL;dr – it’s not worth the effort.
