Hi there
Thanks for your support with setting up my new PC—it's nearly finished. I just need a quick answer: what's the top choice of motherboard for an i5-6400? I'm looking for something under 150 dollars.

Hi everyone
Thanks for your assistance with setting up my new PC—it's almost finished. I still have one more question. What's the best MMO for an i5-6400? My budget is around 150 dollars. Thanks
Some boards allow overclocking, while others don't, depending on the motherboard you're using. I can't list specific models I know because they've changed recently, so it's hard to recommend a particular one. They seem to push the K series for overclocking rather than letting you save money without sacrificing performance.

There is an -K (unlocked) CPU such as the 6600k that can be overclocked. Previously, some Z170 boards and older BIOS versions allowed overclocking certain CPUs. However, modern motherboards may not support flashing back to those older BIOS settings. Therefore, for simplicity, it's best to say you can't overclock that CPU anymore.

Ignore TJ, it's simple. I upgraded my i5-6400 (Skylake) with a brand new motherboard (ASROCK Z170 X1) and boosted its speed to 4.0Ghz using the BIOS on a Corsair water cooling setup. The process was straightforward thanks to BCLK, and I didn't waste money on a K-series board.

Congrats on getting a mobo with the right BIOS for non K OC. But just because you got one doesn't mean that everyone else will. I suppose if the OP wants to spend a little extra on a Z170 board in the hopes that he may be able to overclock he can, but there's no guarantee it'll work.

Hi everyone
Thanks for your assistance with setting up my new computer – it’s almost finished. I still have one more question. What’s the top choice of motherboard for an i5-6400? I’m limited to a budget of 150 dollars. Thanks!

I previously installed an i3-6100 on an MSI Z170M and achieved solid performance improvements. For BIOS updates, MSI offers tools that let you flash any BIOS version you prefer. Asrock boards are also relatively compatible with overclocking.
