Hi everyone, I'm just starting out with overclocking and have watched some tutorials or done a bit of research. I currently have a Z390 Aorus Pro with a 9900k CPU cooled by a Dark Rock Pro 4. I understand that this cooler isn't ideal for heavy overclocks, but it's the only option I have right now before considering an upgrade. Regarding overclocking, I've kept my settings mostly default except for enabling XMP for RAM and pushing the clock to 4.7ghz + 1.280v. During a few hours of AIDA64 stress testing, peak temperatures reached around 80°C on some cores, which seems acceptable. I've also run benchmarks and noticed that lowering certain cores (like 5.2ghz core 1 or 5.1ghz core 2) to 4.7ghz actually hurts performance because the benchmark is locked at that speed. The system stays stable with boosts, but you'd want to see better results if you disable those overclocked cores. I'm curious about whether a 5GHz boost across all cores would help, though that seems unlikely given my current setup. As for recommendations, I'm hoping for something that runs smoothly at around 5GHz or so, but I'm aware it might be tough. Also, I'm looking for an easier cooling solution since I have limited experience with water cooling. The Corsair H100i is on my radar—I've heard good things about it!
I can't really assist with that, but I have a question. Does your 9900k reach 5ghz at normal speeds? I just set it up, ran a Windows reinstall, and at default settings it never hits above 4.7ghz on any core. Before the OS and drivers changed, it consistently reached 5ghz.
Hi mate, yeah I believe it does when I disable the setting which allows some cores to go higher I bench a lot worse on Cinebench + User Benchmark. When I turn it on again it goes back up so I believe it does. Not too clued up tbh i'll try find the setting for you
