overclocking 4790k - aiming for 4.8GHz stability. Gigabyte Z97P-D3
overclocking 4790k - aiming for 4.8GHz stability. Gigabyte Z97P-D3
i'm not sure if anyone has any recommendations for alternative configurations, this is my first attempt at overclocking.
i have an i7 4790k with a corsair h100x (240mm AIO water cooler) and a corsair rm850x power supply.
the motherboard is a gigabyte z97p-d3.
it's running smoothly at 4.7GHz across all four cores, with temperatures staying under 80°C during full load.
i'm using cinebench r23 to check stability.
the only adjustments I made were:
- CPU ratio set to 47 on every core
- Vcore voltage at 1.295v (1.29v sometimes caused crashes, 1.295 seems safe)
- Uncore ratio at 40 (also known as Ring Bus)
when aiming for 4.8GHz, the previous settings would crash early in a cinebench test.
i've also experimented with higher Vcore voltages up to 1.4v, but crashes still occur.
another setting I tried is "VRIN external override" (input voltage, VCCIN, Vrin, eventual input voltage), using auto or manual settings at 1.9v or 1.8v, and testing 4.8GHz on one core then 4.7GHz on the others—still crashes.
i found this information earlier: **link removed – it was the haswell overclocking guide from overclockers. you can search for it if you need more details.**
any other settings you'd like to try? thanks.
