I built a Pentium anniversary system using an Asrock H97M motherboard. Later, I upgraded to a 4690K, mainly because of a Black Friday deal that offered a better price compared to other i5 models. About a month and a half ago, I started noticing temperature concerns.

I didn’t intend to overclock just because I know the H97 isn’t ideal for it. However, I do have BIOS options for the 4690K, though I understand its overclocking potential is limited. My stock cooler was overheating, so I ordered a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO from Amazon. I plan to install it soon and wanted to know if I should try overclocking the 4690K as well.

Here’s my current setup:
- 4690K on stock hardware
- Asrock H97M anniversary motherboard
- 8GB DDR3 1600MHz dual channel G Skill Ripjaw
- 1TB WD Blue
- 500GB Samsung Spinpoint
- MSI R9 270 (overclocked with overdrive)
- EVGA 500W 80 Plus certified PSU
- Raidmax vortex case

I’m cautious about overclocking and want to make sure I have enough cooling before doing so. Thank you for taking the time to listen. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

i don't believe it's possible to overclock that board. The motherboard allows "non z overclocking." After the pentium anniversary chip was released, some manufacturers updated their BIOS to enable non-z97 overclocking for certain processors.
