Prime95 is ready for download; just launch it in smallFFT and keep an eye on core temperatures. Expected improvement of around 7%. Lower voltage could mean better cooling for those CPUs even with the same Hyper 212 design. Be aware that power consumption hasn’t changed much despite the smaller process node, thanks to the reduced frequency headroom for older chips. Heat output remains a key factor—CPU performance drops significantly when voltage is too low. While pushing transistors near water’s freezing point can boost speed, relying on weak air cooling would be counterproductive.

It won't stop the process once it reaches 100°C. The CPU will reduce performance aggressively at that temperature, and there isn’t a built-in way to halt it in Prime95.

Back then, thermal throttling wasn't a standard feature in all CPUs.

That's exactly what I mentioned—thermal throttling won't activate until it reaches 100°C.
