I've been thinking about overclocking my 8700k for a while now. It's running at 4.4ghz, and I'm using a hyper-evo 12. Since I don't have the budget for a new cooler or CPU, I'm not suggesting you buy one just because it might fail. I've checked Cinebench and consistently got around 3225 at that speed. You mentioned you could boost both speed and voltage together, but keeping voltage under 1.35V is important. Before trying higher voltages, your voltage dropped to 1.30V on its own, which worried me. Anyone have advice? I'm new to this and don't want to risk damaging the CPU. My max temperature in Cinebench was 80°C.
Yes, it's possible to achieve a stable overclock beyond 4.4 without altering the voltage.
Avoid pushing it further if you prefer not to heat it up or enhance the cooler. Reducing voltage instead of increasing frequency works well.
There is a little bit of room, but why bother when the cooler's bad (I wont let it go past 80c), the board's weak, and you're only pairing it with a 2060? Undervolting can reduce power draw and heat output further without affect speed (i.e. efficiency), that's why I'm doing it.
It only reaches 80°C in Cinebench, but I usually saw 76-78°C during peak performance. That’s essentially the maximum reported by the hardware monitoring tool.
