Overclocked GPU causing GTA V crashes
Overclocked GPU causing GTA V crashes
Hi there,
I made my first try at overclocking with my MSI GeForce GTX 970. After installing MSI Afterburner, I increased the Memory Clock to +450 and Core Clock to +150. Using the Heaven benchmark, everything worked perfectly and I achieved a doubled score before and after the changes. Later, when playing GTA V, I noticed stable FPS around 115 initially, but after about ten minutes there was significant lag, the game froze, and a pop-up appeared stating GTA V stopped responding. After restarting my PC, everything seemed normal for the first 20 minutes, though the issue reappeared later. I haven’t adjusted my GPU settings yet, but I’m hoping to fix it since others have managed memory clocks as high as +500 and core clocks of +200. My GPU temperatures during the test stayed below 70°C.
When purchasing components for overclocking, you're participating in the "silicon lottery," and your results might differ from others. The recommended approach is to adjust gradually, checking at each stage, until you achieve the most stable overclock possible. This method, though time-consuming, is essential for success.
