Hey guys, so I've managed to get my i7 4770k stable at 4.4ghz with a low voltage of 1.200 on adaptive, which changes depending on clock speed and idle. I thought I could push it higher, but my CPU seems to need much more voltage above 4.4ghz. Something strange started happening though—after playing GTA V for a while, maybe two hours, my PC would crash the typical WHEA uncorrectable error related to overclocking (and other issues, but usually for me it’s definitely overclocking). I couldn’t figure out why, since I’ve stress tested and had no problems before. Then I noticed my CPU would spike up to 4.5ghz in short bursts even though the multiplier is set to 4.4ghz. I turned off Turbo Mode in the CPU config in BIOS, but it still jumps up to 4.5ghz on HWinfo64. How can I stop this and why is it happening?
Please ensure the specified chipset driver and Intel management engine interface are installed.
Yes, my profile is current at version 1603 and was installed using the Asus installer to update.
It's odd, I've never encountered such an issue before. Someone from our overclocking team should come take a look and see if they can assist.
There will generally be some differences, but rarely enough to trigger crashes. Changes in clock speed are typical. Variations of 100mhz beyond the configured rate are unlikely. You can check if these changes persist by adjusting your processor power settings to 99% in the advanced options, which are available in the control panel. If the fluctuations still occur after this adjustment, it may indicate a lower maximum clock speed, requiring further fine-tuning of the BIOS CPU multiplier. You could also disable Intel speed step in the BIOS to determine if it's causing issues, though it usually only impacts adjustments near the maximum clock rate. It does affect speed in both directions but stops at the BIOS-defined maximum. Have you used an overclocking utility before? It’s possible another setting is interfering and a clean install might be necessary to remove any conflicting configurations?
