Hey there, I understand you're facing some issues with your older 2012 Alienware m17x R3. Here are the details of your setup: an i7 Intel processor with 2720QM and 2.2GHz turbo boost, paired with an AMD Radeon 6900HD and Intel HD 3000. You're new to overclocking but have reviewed the advantages and disadvantages. You tried increasing the frequency through BIOS under the advanced settings, adjusting in 10kHz increments. After saving your changes and restarting, you checked back into BIOS but saw the default frequency (99.80) unchanged. I also noticed your laptop is connected via an adapter since the battery died, and you're wondering if that's the cause. Additionally, you think your BIOS might be outdated, which could be a factor too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Request from Jc2424: "Overclock issue Alienware m17x r3"
Hey everyone, I'm seeking some assistance. I'm experiencing difficulties with overclocking my older 2012 Alienware m17x r3. Here are the specifics of my system: i7 Intel 2720QM 2.2GHz turbo boost 3.3GHz; AMD Radeon 6900HD plus Intel HD 3000. I have no prior experience in overclocking, but I reviewed the advantages and disadvantages. I tried to increase the frequency via BIOS under the advanced settings, specifically the overclock option, adjusting in 10kHz increments. After setting a value, I saved the changes and restarted my computer to check the results. However, when I accessed the BIOS again, it still displayed the default frequency (99.80) as if nothing had changed. I also want to mention that my laptop is connected to an adapter since the battery has failed, and I'm wondering if that's the cause. Additionally, I suspect the BIOS might not be up to date, which could be another issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time."

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution, but perhaps you can assist me.
I'm facing issues accessing my BIOS and I'm wondering if your motherboard is updated to A12.
