Overclock PC 1060+16gb+ssd+i5
I’d like to improve my PC’s performance. I’m new to this, but I’m ready to learn. The current specs are:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Intel Core i5 6500 @ 3.20GHz
16,0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1063MHz (15-15-15-36)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (Gigabyte)
223GB KINGSTON SV300S37A240G (SATA-2 (SSD))
All information was collected using speccy. I haven’t changed anything in the BIOS or through any other tools.
What options do you think I should try to boost performance?
Thanks a lot
you can navigate to bios and apply an xmp profile for memory to raise it to 2400mhz. then, for the GPU, downloading the MSI AB should yield improvements ranging from +150 to +175 on core speed and +250 to +300 on memory clock. each card varies, so you'll need to adjust gradually to reach those targets. if instability occurs, lower your clocks and retry. you won't be able to overclock your CPU since it's not a k series chip, but this approach can boost performance by 5 to 10%.
i need to be clear with you, the outcome won’t be that extreme (perhaps around 5%) in certain games. additionally, we should know the motherboard model and make.
the 6500 and ssd setup isn’t suitable for overclocking.
the ram is currently at 2133 mhz; if your supported ram/motherboard allows, enabling xmp will automatically increase its speed.
for 10 series cards, there’s an integrated OC feature known as gpu boost 3.0, which already operates at your original frequency (though this is the only manual overclocking option available via msi afterburner)

The optimal method is to upgrade the system. Overclocking provides roughly a 10% improvement.
Activate XMP in BIOS if you haven’t already.
This setting isn’t functioning on SATA 3/III? Or perhaps it indicates a connection to the second port?
Consider these steps:
0. Use MSI Afterburner.
0. Install UNIGINE Valley on Extreme HD (or similar benchmarks).
1. Raise your power limit, ensuring you have a robust PSU.
2. Boost your core clock by 50+ at intervals while monitoring the UNIGINE benchmark for artifacts (unusual lines or colors) or driver crashes. Adjust accordingly compared to previous settings.
Example: Core clock: ... > +150 > artifact > +145 > artifact > +120 (maintain at least 25 below max).
3. Repeat the process for memory, aiming for 50 or more below the max.
4. Save your configuration.
5. Avoid applying overclocking at startup; verify performance after a short testing period.
Maintain temperatures under 80°C / 176°F.
