Overclock i7 920 to 4.0ghz
Hi, I'm just starting out with overclocking. I successfully boosted my i7 920 to 4.0ghz at 1.36256 vcore and qpi 1.35 using prime95 for testing. It ran stably for an hour, with temperatures hitting 87°C and core temps ranging from 39 to 45°C. I turned off HT and checked if the temps are acceptable. The guide suggests keeping temps below 85°C, but during intense gaming loads, I've seen temps reach up to 77°C—probably safe as long as it stays within that range.
Seems like everything is in order. Temperatures are fine outside of intense stress tests. A bit high at 77C, but not something to worry too much about. Nice build, by the way. I had my i7 920 @ 3.8 a while ago with 1.35v for both vcore and QPI. Great build.

The results seem good. Under normal conditions, temperatures are fine. Slightly high at 77C isn't a major issue. The OC looks solid. I used an i7 920 with 3.8 GHz at 1.35v for both voltage and QPI. Excellent performance.
Regarding RAM, you should adjust the voltage to match your setup—currently set to 1.66. Aim for a setting around 1600MHz, which is close to the G.Skill DDR3 1600MHz triple 12GB (3x4).
I wonder why HT was turned off. My gaming rig wouldn’t gain much from it, and keeping HT on would raise temperatures too much. Without it, I could increase the MHz a bit more.
Hi there. I faced the same issue with my RAM speeds as well, being slower than the rated 1600Mhz at 1.65v. Because it's technically underclocked, you might consider adjusting the timings to reduce latency and boost memory bandwidth. But the actual improvement in real life will be small, probably just a few frames per second in certain games.
