Overclock i7-8700k Blue Screen
Overclock i7-8700k Blue Screen
Hello, I'm having trouble overclocking my 8700k to 5ghz. It keeps showing a blue screen with CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. I'm using an ASUS Prime-A Z370 with the latest BIOS update. For voltage settings I've tried 1.35 and went up to 1.38 without any change. The calibration line was set between 4 and 6, but still getting the same issue. CPU voltage is up to 140%, SVID is disabled, Multicore Enhancement is off, and cache settings were tested with auto and 42. Despite this, I still experience blue screens when playing games like Battlefield 2, League of Legends or CS Go. My temperatures are around 69-80 degrees, but the processor isn't heating up much. Stress tests run fine without errors. Please help me out. Thanks.
Have you verified that the computer isn't displaying a blue screen due to stock CPU settings while running those games? I'm currently at 4.7 with 1.25 voltage, and everything has been functioning perfectly over the past week.

What kind of power supply are you using? You might run into problems with that voltage.

SgtScream asks if the multiplier can be adjusted sufficiently to prevent the bluescreen from repeating at those OC levels. If lowering the multiplier doesn't resolve the issue, it might indicate a different setting needs consideration.
There is an error in the loop that I implemented for the outlet and outlet to inlet to the CPU block, but I believe it's not the problem since my temperatures never exceed 80 degrees, which is the worst case. I plan to fix this soon, but I still doubt it could cause a blue screen. What are your thoughts?
Not every i7 reaches 5Ghz and they can be difficult to cool under continuous use. You may need to adjust the voltage to 1.40v. Silicon Lottery advises this.
