Attempting to extend the lifespan of my system, hoping for a complete upgrade to i5 or i7.
I’ve been operating at default speeds since purchase, aware it could be improved but never felt the need. Now I’m experiencing performance drops while playing Battlefield 4 at maximum settings. Initially, I tried overclocking using the built-in clocks, reaching 3.7GHz and maintaining stability until about three minutes into the game, after which I encountered a BSoD.
What upgrades should I make to enable successful overclocking on this setup?
I’m thinking about replacing the memory with G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866, since I believe the memory is the main issue.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
There's always a good old stand by "Cooler Master 212 Evo" that so many use or something in that class.
As for what to base it on. At least120mm fan with possibility to mount two, 4 to 6 heat pipes, universal mountings so you can reuse it if you change MB and of course height to fit in the case.
