Overclock gtx 1080
Overclock gtx 1080
First of all, I'm just starting out with overclocking. I tried it today and feel a bit confused... maybe I'm just too new to this subject... but after some tests, I noticed it's running around 50 degrees Celsius. Is there a way to boost its performance since it stays so cool under full load?
Yes, simply boost the card's overclocking a bit more. This will raise temperatures and likely also raise fan speed when the system is under heavy load. Adjust the clock speed gradually in increments of roughly 20-25 MHz, then perform a stress test after each change to confirm temperatures remain within acceptable limits.
It isn't operating at its peak performance, and it seems you've likely introduced a very unstable overclock setting. Once you grasp the fundamentals and comprehend what overclocking entails, you can follow this useful 1080 OC guide to understand your actions and get solid results, even if you're new.

After identifying the GPU clock's optimal range and properly adjusting the card in a benchmark test, you'll notice it reaches 85-90% performance without crashing. This confirms you've maximized its potential under full load.
But it fails when I perform that action... or could it be my mistake? (I'm running gamerock Premium 1080 with an MSI afterburner.)
You're likely encountering a voltage barrier. Pushing overclocking beyond this point becomes increasingly complex, so it's wise to research how voltage impacts your GPU before attempting further adjustments. A suitable starting point would be:
GPU core voltage: should I increase it?
Alright, okay... good news
Thanks a lot
The only odd part is that my TimeSpy dropped from 7800 to 8150, which doesn’t sound like a bad OC
I went through all the articles you shared and noticed something important—I switched to the Heaven Benchmark and saw that my OC was quite unstable. I started fresh, but didn’t get the results I hoped for. The GPU speed dropped compared to before, temperatures rose slightly to around 60 degrees, likely because of the change to the Heaven benchmark. Still, I felt comfortable with the higher temperatures.
