Frequency spikes with my OC 5950X - from 5100 to 3600. At the moment, I'm testing it on Windows, but I plan to switch back to my Linux setup, so I would like to figure everything out before I do. I recently bought a new PC and I don't have much experience with overclocking, but I still made some tweaks. don't bite me if i'm a bit noob. Spec list: - 5950X - X570 TUF Gaming - Dark Rock Pro 4 - CL14 Trident Neo 3600 MHz i enabled maximum perfomance mode in Windows via: (ofc set it in the powercfg.cpl ) powercfg -duplicatescheme SCHEME_MIN powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61 and those are my bios settings: - **CPPC** → `Enabled` - **CPPC Preferred Cores** → `Disabled` ( i experienced the same issue on enabled as well) pbo fmax enchancer = disabled vddcr soc power phase control = extreme vddcr cpu power phase control = extreme **PBO Advanced** - **PPT: 210 W** - **TDC: 140 A** - **EDC: 180 A** - **Scalar: auto** - **Boost Override: +100 MHz** I have the following issue: In benchmarks such as **Cinebench 2024**, my boost is pretty stable — constant and high, without any reboots. R2024: - Stock: ~1360 points - OC: 1564 points I guess AIDA, HWiNFO64, and the stock Windows Task Manager display my frequency correctly. But in games or while idling: RivaTuner, AIDA, and HWiNFO show completely different frequencies from each other. in games frequency spikes: going from 4800 -> 3600 -> 5100 every 3-4 seconds It never falls below 3600 Only HWiNFO and RivaTuner via Afterburner show these clocks. Task Manager, I assume, shows the average load around 4.4 GHz Usually, I know that a stock 5950X without OC is around 4.5–4.9 GHz, and I'm just curious if it is normal to get spikes like this every 2–5 seconds. I thought it would stay above ~4 GHz. screenshots: 1 - idle in windows. chilling on 3600 2-4 - multi core cinebench r2024. constant boost over 4.2 5-6 - wukong settings 3600 to 4700 7-9 - wukung 3600 to 5050 -> 4.8 - > 3600 10 - end of wukong benchmark *vsync 60 fps limit. high preset with rtx I hope somebody can explain this to me, because I have doubts that this is normal behavior. It has been some time since I adjusted the overclocking settings, though it wasn't like back then. I didn't check your configuration, so I'm unsure if you're always running at the same speed. Usually, CPUs today switch between boost and idle modes, which is normal. The variations in reported speeds likely stem from differences in individual programs.

Thanks! It looks like you've got river tuner working well now, displaying the correct frequency for the last 15-20 minutes. Still puzzled about how you achieved this. Update: it seems stable mainly in GTA 5, though I rarely see 3600 before cutscenes or pause. In Unreal Engine games like Wukong benchmark, it consistently shows 3600.
