Hi guys
I just set up a system around the 8700k and haven’t overclocked before. I bought this CPU specifically for that purpose. I also have the Maximus Hero motherboard and 3200mhz RAM. The CPU is currently running at 3.7ghz as stock—what’s the simplest way to boost it? What speed would you suggest? Since it’s a fully functional machine, I need something stable. Any advice would be great.

They achieved 5.0 GHz at 1.28V. You might aim for a similar speed. The exact model number of your cooler isn't specified, and descriptions like "AIO water cooler" offer little detail. Results can differ significantly between models.

There is no variation in the chips. It's impossible to determine the exact capabilities of your specific chip.

Plenty of overclocking guides out there, all it takes is a quick google search. Anything that applies to Skylake/Kaby Lake (e.g. 6700K/7700K) should be pretty applicable to overclocking your 8700K. As said above, no one can just tell you the magic numbers that will work with your CPU.

Which cpu cooler do you have? If this is a work computer, why do you need to overclock it?

Ricky5555 :
This is a 100% work machine so I need something reliable.
Work machine and OC doesn't really go together.
Bet ready that your pc might freeze or BSOD right in the middle of your most important work.

You understand that providing a precise number isn't possible. I'm curious, what would be a reasonable estimate? I own an AIO water cooler.
