Did they mention anywhere the "final" number of ships that will be in game? A tangible, yet vast fleet would be nice, maybe not to the scale of Eve. But if every pirate has one of three different ships because that's all there is, it's going to get old quick. Even with the modularity.

I'm discussing the specifics of the game you're referring to. Could you clarify which one?

In reality, their only constraint is time and effort. There’s no fixed limit on ship types, and modders are free to create ships that might fit. I think the Redeemer was successful. As long as they continue supporting and updating, there’s no final ship. They release in phases, we’re close to the end of wave 3, and wave 4 will arrive sooner than expected.

They seem determined to maintain secrecy around Squadron 42, which complicates estimating the exact number of ships ready for launch. During their Reverse the Verse Twitch broadcast, they occasionally hint at withholding information about certain Vanduul, Xi'An, and possibly UEE military vessels assigned to SQ 42. A forum member maintains a ship list, though it’s only been a few months old. He reports around 123 ships mentioned so far (153 with variants), but includes lore-based vessels as well. He estimates roughly 50 to 60 ships are officially recognized in-game, excluding variants. Many of these appear to be sold through the marketplace, even though they’re technically discontinued for purchase.

They also offer wave releases for concept ships. Even if they halt with this upcoming wave, they have approved at least another eight models we can buy. There are likely ships tailored for specific enemies and their variants that won’t be ready right away. Another aspect is the presence of five or more ship manufacturers within the UEE system, just for the UEE side. This figure excludes contributions from alien species, ancient technology (such as civilizations we can study or recover), and other sources. The entire story behind the vanduul scythe being available for purchase (temporarily) stems from capturing a fleet carrier by the UEE, which held around 400-500 flyable scythes and 300 needing repairs. Thanks to the ongoing universe, the game will continuously add more elements. There’s no fixed total; instead, based on the starting count mentioned by @ KevinTipcorn, there would be roughly 130 and 155 or more variants when considering differences. This count also doesn’t account for any ships RSI might add from modders into the official roster.

Given that we have stats for 50 ships, including varients, and this is less than a quarter of the ships mentioned or known, I say we will have a decent variety of ships. Given the current reported out of 1395 ships reported our Org break down is Auroroa series - 24.3% - 339 300 series - 19.43% - 271 Hornet Series - 8.6% - 120 Avenger - 8.1% - 113 Freelancer Series - 7.6% - 106 Constilation Series - 7.46% - 104 Mustang Series - 6.1% - 85 Cutlass Series - 4.74% - 66 If we assume that the same breakdown "works" for the rest of the population 626,976 for SC we get Auroroa series - 24.3% - 153,355 300 series - 19.43% - 121,821 Hornet Series - 8.6% - 53,920 Avenger - 8.1% - 50,785 Freelancer Series - 7.6% - 47,650 Constilation Series - 7.46% - 46,772 Mustang Series - 6.1% - 38,246 Cutlass Series - 4.74% - 29,718 TLBig GrinR you've got at the moment in the PU a 50% chance of running into a mustang, aurora, or 300 series in any encounter.

Only a small fraction for the Mustang? It seems the Aurora offers a better option for dogfighting overall, which is amusing given how often I see Mustangs in every online match.

In my view, the Mustang's look hasn't aged as much as the Auroras do.

The main problem with my data is org reporting. So the 6% might be higher because people aren't telling me they switched to it or are using it. But I prefer the beta version—it looks better than the aurora to me.
