over clocking my fx4300
quick question about my FX4300 that's been running Prime for more than an hour now. It seems stable so far, but the CPU-Z shows a slight drop in GHz. This is unusual—hasn't this happened before? Hardware specs are clear. Gigabyte 970 motherboard, FX4300, GTX 960 with 4GB RAM, PSU 800W modular.
Possible VRM throttling indicates your cooling system is nearing its limits for your motherboard. Check if the VRMs have heatsinks or a fan covering them. This isn't an extreme failure, but a slight slowdown under heavy use to maintain stability. As long as the core isn't malfunctioning (Prime reports failure and worker thread stopped), it's safe.
past prime for three hours with no errors, motherboard had heat sinks and that would have been tried otherwise. I only observed temperatures around 4.4 GHz, which seemed fine. It dropped to about 4 GHz for a second, but then it bounced back up a few times without ever reaching 4 GHz.
