Outlook isn't establishing a connection with GMail?
Hello everyone,
I’m facing a significant issue that’s making it difficult for me to navigate through Outlook and Gmail. I have Office 2019 (single user) that I installed with my new PC in January 2022. At that time, I set up my Gmail account and had to use two-factor authentication. Later, I attempted to connect my Outlook.com email, but encountered several difficulties.
I came across some online advice suggesting a registry modification to disable Outlook’s two-factor requirement, as it didn’t support it at the time. I tried that approach to link an Outlook account onto Office, but it failed.
In recent days, I’ve received emails from PayPal asking me to verify my account, even though I didn’t have one with them. To be safe, I changed my Gmail password just in case, remembering I had been a victim of identity fraud before.
When I tried to reconnect to Outlook yesterday using the new password, it kept prompting for my password again and wouldn’t work.
I’ve spent considerable time researching, but it seems Gmail has removed the ‘use less secure apps’ option and now requires two-factor authentication. It appears the registry hack from last year is causing the connection issues—my modern authorization settings are appearing as outdated. I’m unsure what I did with that hack previously, but I don’t see anything resembling my original setup.
I’ve also tried uninstalling Office completely, using CCleaner on my registry, and reinstalling via the official store link. Despite these efforts, connecting to Gmail remains frustrating.

I have a few other business email addresses that work fine with Outlook, but my primary Gmail account is personal. I’m currently using the web version on my PC and prefer a PC app for mobile, though I really wish I could get it back.
I hope someone can help clarify this situation.
Thanks all ahead!

Hi Rgd1101,
Apologies for the delayed reply—I had to leave yesterday and couldn’t thank you right away.
This hasn’t resolved the issue either; I wasn’t able to set up the ports SSL etc., since there were no options in the Outlook dialog box. Also, when I go into Account Settings → Server Settings, I get a blank box instead of any changes. I think this is where the SSL configuration was supposed to be entered.
I’m really having trouble with this change in my Gmail password.
Remove the Gmail profile from Outlook. It’s a good idea to begin anew. Don’t stress, your messages will return once you log back in at the final stage.
2. Turn on third-party access for your Google account. This feature is new; they restrict connections to Outlook or other apps unless you permit it. For details, visit the support page: https://support.google.com/accounts/answ...6521?hl=en
3. Reinsert your Google account into Outlook, and it should function properly
Hi Randyh121
Thank you for your message and response. I've removed the Gmail account from the Outlook client. I checked my security settings on Gmail/Google, but there isn't an option for 'Manage third-party access'. The link mentioned says that 'Important: "Manage third-party access" is only available if you grant access to third-party apps.' I went to 'Apps with access to your account' and it just tells me 'you haven't given any apps or services permission to access your Google account'—there doesn’t seem to be a way to enable it. I might be misunderstanding, but I think the Outlook client should first request permission from Google? I’m not sure if I’m doing anything incorrectly.
