Hi everyone, I have a general inquiry about Steam. While it's true that Steam has a large user base, I'm curious if another platform offering DRM features could challenge it. With Steam already having over 100 million members, do you think it's likely to maintain its dominance forever? Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Emma.

Steam is likely to dominate the PC gaming industry for the foreseeable future. The platform has a solid presence in the market, and few rivals can match its capabilities.

Another platform might appear, but unless it matches the simplicity and selection that Steam offers—along with its massive library of over 6,880 titles—it wouldn’t be worth using. Services like Origin and Uplay push users toward their own ecosystems, making it hard for alternatives to thrive unless they deliver comparable quality. If a new competitor emerges that rivals Steam in features and performance, I’d likely stick with it only if it lets me easily move my extensive library. Otherwise, I’d probably abandon Steam entirely.

I own most of my games on Steam, but I recently added GOG Galaxy. It’s still in beta and I only have a few titles, but the store is clean and user-friendly. You can save your games to the cloud or an external drive, it’s DRM-free, and there’s a game trade feature—though I’m not sure how it works. I appreciate the ability to store games on a flash drive just in case.
