I've been using Windows 10 for several years now and believe it's the top OS Microsoft ever made. I'm not sure what kind of spamware the person is referring to, and I don't really understand Cortana beyond what I've picked up from rumors since I turned them off right away. I've never let anything install on my computer without instructions. This might be because as soon as I got the free upgrade for Windows 10 on my laptop—a big upgrade compared to the terrible 8.1—I followed those two guides: https://www.howtogeek.com/224798/how-to-...tall-them/ and https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-completel...-10-spying. I also turned off most of the visual settings in Windows 10 to make it run smoother on my older laptop. Windows 10 is a solid, mainstream operating system, so you should definitely consider giving it a try, especially if you've already survived the awful Windows 8. The fact that you don't even need to activate it fully to get the most out of it (except for some visual options) makes it quite affordable compared to Linux.
