Other options for Cherry MX Clear and Grey
Other options for Cherry MX Clear and Grey
Hi!
I’m thinking about upgrading my Cooler Master MK750 keyboard. I was wondering if replacing the switches would fix the issues, or if I should desolder and swap them out. It seems like problems with double letters might come from the switches, but I’m not sure about the PCB’s role.
I’m searching for tactile switches that are heavier than the ones I currently have. I’ve seen Cherry Clears and Greys, but I’m a bit worried about the weight of Greys. Should I check them on AliExpress since I’m in Italy? Or should I consider Cherry or other brands with similar switches?
Also, what’s the best budget for a fully custom hot-swap keyboard? Thanks!
I personally went shopping and purchased the mk770 during a sale.

I also tried brown switches, but they were too light for my preference. The white ones came with the keyboard and I really like them. They’re still a bit light, but you might find them appealing. It’s a great keyboard with hot-swappable switches.
I’ve already replaced the switches with heavier ones, but I haven’t had time yet.
The price seems to be around $100 or less, though I’ve seen cheaper options from other brands.
For example, I saw this one at my local Best Buy.

It’s about getting it knowing you’ll need new switches, but the value is good for a reputable brand.
I believe I’ve identified a suitable path forward. Numerous suggestions have been offered, but I’m leaning toward starting with a barebones kit from Amazon IT. Since I have ample gift cards and prefer purchasing locally, I’d like to explore that option first. After deciding on the switch configuration, I already possess the keycaps (though I plan to update them later).
I’d steer clear of a fully keyboard setup due to space limitations, yet avoid anything excessively compact. The arrow keys and functions like F1, F2 are essential. A 96% layout would be ideal for me. I’m also keen on RGB lighting to match my green-themed environment, and an ISO layout is a must.
I’ve found these options:
- Glorious Gaming GMMK (TKL version, €70)
- Glorious Gaming GMMK 2, 3, and 3 Pro (€60, €90, €100)
- GMMK 2 96% version (€60)
- GMMK 3: 65% version (€90, TKL €100)
I’d prefer to stay under €100, but I’m open to the price if it justifies the value. I noticed the keycaps on these models are recessed compared to the GMMK 2—what’s the distinction?
Let me know your thoughts!

I came up with this idea after reading your post!
the 96% is not too bad. i also prefer a full size, so i wondered if i'd dislike the 96% layout.
it is missing the home and end buttons which i used a lot. so i simply remapped the pg up and down buttons to do that instead since i never use those.
just a reminder to consider if any button is missing what you need or want.
don't know what's available in your country, but in the us, amazon offers many choices. the switches i bought were on amazon just not as sturdy as i hoped.
i went with the gateron aliaz silent tactile switches

i chose the 100g ones since i seem to type like an ape without strength control. amazon had all the versions except the 100g ones here in the us
