In the latest update (3.4) of Canon Camera Connect, Canon requires users to generate a Canon ID code. I don't want to create one. Are there other (Free and Open Source) alternatives available? I'm using a Canon PowerShot SX730 HS camera.

I’m not sure what you mean by "forces".
Could you provide the Canon ID code? It seems related to a Canon Account.
Are you referring to the support article or the Canon ID page?
Some research showed a link about Canon ID requirements, but I don’t know why it was needed.
I’m aware that forum rules forbid helping with workarounds to bypass these rules.
I hope there are other legitimate options available, and Forum members can share their thoughts.
Personally, I have a Canon Powershot SX530 that’s not often used, and it might be passed on to someone else...
I’ll check if the camera still functions properly and how.

Canon requires users to set up a Canon ID account in order to access the app. In the previous version (3.2), this was not mandatory and did not impact how the app functions. This setup acts as a security measure, preventing users without a Canon ID from using the application.

I anticipate the discussion will focus on the extent of Canon's User Community's acceptance or rejection of the mandatory Canon ID account.

Except if the Canon community devises something, chances are not good.

I tried to locate a way to prevent automatic updates to the previous version. However, this isn't a permanent fix, since the older version might not work with newer Canon camera models if I upgrade.

Businesses often make simple mistakes like this.
The only options are to steer clear of it or accept the consequences.
