The title clearly indicates the goal is a portable LAN party setup. Looking for OS options that support CS:GO without needing a heavy tower. SteamOS and Debian are two possibilities discussed, but there may be more suitable choices to explore.

Almost any Linux distribution works well. SteamOS or Linux Mint would be ideal.

SteamOS Beta marks the initial public launch of our Linux-based OS. The foundation is built on Debian 7, also known as Debian Wheezy. Our development enhances the strong Debian base and tailors it for everyday use. Above all, it's a fully open Linux environment giving you complete control. You can manage your system and add desired software or content. What hardware is needed for SteamOS? CPU: Intel or AMD 64-bit processor RAM: 4GB or more Memory: 500GB+ drive Video Card: NVIDIA graphics card AMD graphics card (RADEON 8500+) Intel graphics Extra: UEFI boot support USB port for installation

This HDD needs a lot of space because it stores a large amount of data.

It seems you expect a large collection of games to be carried, yet the system requires very little storage—well under 500 gigabytes.
