Support for running VMs is widespread, including unraid, Truenas, and many others. I usually avoid USB drives unless absolutely necessary, since I've encountered more problems with them recently.

Is there a chance it includes a Thunderbolt port? It might make a cool project to set up an HBA inside a Thunderbolt enclosure.
