I need help understanding the problem with your dad's laptop. After reinstalling the OS, running virus scans, and checking online, it still behaves strangely. It keeps muting/unmuting volume every 30 seconds to a few minutes, toggling CAPS lock, holding SHIFT, locking certain keys, and randomly pressing enter. The machine is a refurbished HP EliteBook 8470p, but no relevant information appears on the web. I've tried various suggestions online, but nothing resolves it. I hope this community can offer advice or solutions. Thank you in advance for any help, even if it doesn't work.

It’s likely your keyboard connection is faulty or the keyboard itself is broken. You might attempt to detach the keyboard and access the ribbon cable to reattach it or inspect for damage, cleaning the board if necessary. If this fails, consider replacing the keyboard entirely. If all else fails, seek help from a professional technician.

Turn off the keyboard's ribbon connection. Consider using a separate USB keyboard. If the problem disappears, you've identified the source.
