OS installation halting due to system issues
Hey everyone, I'm looking to try POP OS after watching some videos. However, I can't find either the LTS or 19.04 version available for installation. Once I pick a region, the installer halts after choosing the keyboard layout. I've tried other layouts without success. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Yes, I can share a screenshot. Have you explored another way to distribute it?
Hardware details are also included in my profile: CPU i7 6700k, Motherboard MSI B150A, RAM 16GB DDR4, GPU GTX 1070. I considered installing Pop OS for better Nvidia support, but only tried Pop OS. I plan to add a screenshot soon. The installation begins normally, but after confirming the choice nothing happens—just stays frozen. I can log out and back in to restart the installer, yet it doesn’t resolve the issue.
Consider re-downloading and writing the installation medium again, as it might be damaged. Wait about half an hour to confirm it has frozen properly. If it still hasn’t frozen, the installer could face compatibility issues with your hardware. In that case, try installing Ubuntu—it’s quite similar to Pop_OS and may work better.
I checked further with my roommate and found that the installer fails to recognize my Windows partition. We then ran the installer from the terminal without access to the drives, bypassing the initial hanging step. However, we’re still stuck on installation. Any suggestions? I was thinking of using a different hard drive just for Pop-OS, but I’d rather do a double boot on the same drive since I already have several in my system.
Are you considering a dualboot setup or a clean wipe? You can simply clear the HDD using the terminal before installing.
