It seems the files vanished from your desktop but appear in File Explorer's left panel. Check if they're saved elsewhere or moved. Ensure your desktop shortcuts are correctly set up. If needed, reinstall your file manager or check for system updates.

Are you sure the Desktop Icons NG (DING) plugin is activated? It seems necessary for the icons to function properly.

Do you possess two displays? Your icons seem to show up only on the second one.

It functioned properly initially. Recently, they disappeared after just one day. I’ll review your advice. Appreciate the update—note that desktop files appeared normally but then vanished unexpectedly. Thanks.

The default GNOME Desktop doesn't allow Desktop Icons. PopOS employs an extension to enable this feature, which is referenced above. However, during an update this extension might fail or be turned off if issues arise.

Plus they back it up... but they don’t include desktop icons since those are a big no-no. You use a file manager to open programs, not icons or shortcuts. MacOS follows the same rule. The goal is keeping your desktop space for active projects only.
