OS help
Hey there, Tim. I'm putting together my first project and have everything ready except for choosing the right operating system. I'm checking out this link you shared—it looks like a major version list. Should I try installing it directly or do I need an old product key? If not, what’s the cheapest way to get a Windows copy without breaking the bank? I really don’t want to go down that pricey route or risk getting something illegal. Thanks!
If you're able to purchase it, go for it. I think this is just a product key, so you'll need to download a Windows 7 ISO which is legal. You can find them at the provided link: http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official...ads.12325/. It's best to use a USB key and then extract the ISO onto it before installing. @rubdownhero
My university also offers these, but they’re just improvements—you’ll need an existing Windows version. They provide any student a free OS upgrade, including 7 Pro and 8.1 Pro. I’ll likely use mine for Windows 9 when it launches. It’s important to stay current if you’re studying Computer Engineering.
It's unclear. Perhaps using a different Windows version without the key would allow the upgrade, though I haven't tried it before.
