Hey there! I see you're trying to find a RAM-based OS for your old laptop. Since you're using a VIA C3 processor (i686), it might not work with PartedMagic or similar tools. You could look into lightweight options like Windows PE or try other bootable distributions that support older architectures. Let me know if you'd like more details! Thanks!

Check the complete specifications for the laptop. Have you experimented with an older Linux live USB?

Yes, you can install a Linux distribution directly onto a USB drive and boot it from there.

It's a Patriot 2000, also known as ECS G320, featuring a VIA C3 processor running at 1GHz. You could likely boost the RAM from 128MB to 256 or even 64MB using Embedded Castle Rock GFX video memory. It also came with Windows XP for added convenience.

I attempted to install a Linux distribution, but it froze immediately after loading from a USB or CD drive.

I considered starting a vintage Linux distribution. So far, I've only experimented with more recent versions, but it's worth giving it another try.

Puppy Porteus Slax Knoppix is suggested. Keep in mind, everyone faces a learning curve—last two seem easiest.

It continues to exist because of committed developers. A fresh version built around 20.04 LTS – Puppy Linux 9.5
