I visited Steam because I wanted to use some money, and after watching comparison clips of the updated Mafia 2 next to the original, I thought the price difference wouldn’t be worth it. I thought the older version would cost about £10-15 at most... possibly a bit more. The newer one is listed at £24.99. I’m having trouble finding the original release. The first game is available for £7.99, while the remastered version is £34.99. The second title doesn’t appear as a standalone purchase, so I’ll have to pay £24.99 for what I call the “definitive edition” and get the original version for free. I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing and someone can assist. I’d rather not spend £24.99 on a minor visual improvement if there’s any chance of buying the original game. The Mafia 2 and 3 “definitive edition” versions aren’t full overhauls like the Mafia 1 remake; they’re more like small updates, whereas the Mafia 1 remake is a complete rework. Any suggestions? P.S. It has to be on Steam since that’s where the credits are.

I'm disappointed since I missed the original version, which would have given me a free upgrade. It feels unfair that I'm paying 24.99 for something so similar to the original—likely around 8 or 9 pounds if there was no remake. As I mentioned, the definitive edition of 2 isn't as impressive as the remake of Mafia 1. It seems I'll have to either pay 24.99 or give up. Thanks for clarifying the situation.

I believe the upgrade isn't meant to go back in time. It seems you can only purchase the upgraded version if you owned the original release when the remaster was released. Otherwise, people would opt for the original at a lower price and get the upgrade for free. Plus, locating a physical copy of the original or a standalone digital file wouldn't be possible without a disc drive or a separate download. I think I'll go with the definitive edition upgrade and accept the cost...lol. Thanks for the helpful tips!

I’m only able to access it via Steam because the payment is stored there. The price of 8.79 Canadian might seem low, though.

It costs £5.99 in the UK (original release). I only have money on Steam, which is frustrating because the main storefront doesn’t allow the version I want. It only lets me buy the original Mafia 1, not the second one. Still nothing I can do. Thanks for your help, Benji.

I agree, but purchasing it on GoG isn't possible since the money is linked to my Steam account. Should I try getting it through Steam instead? Or should I look for an alternative option?

He recently sent me a private message and gave me a code for Mafia 2. It came as a complete surprise and was really thoughtful from his side. It truly brightened my day. Thanks again, Soag!
