I'm searching for the most affordable laptop with a bare minimum of features, suitable for web use and streaming. It should be comfortable to carry due to my recent health condition. The ideal choice is under $500 with a decent screen size, even if the resolution isn't perfect. I'm not looking for gaming performance, just something that runs smoothly and stays cool. Purchasing in Canada is the plan.

I'm uncertain about the recommended temperature specs, whether it's the CPU, battery, or overall design. A few years ago I owned an HP 14" model with those specs, but it overheated quickly and is no longer available in Canada.

I'd like to know if there are any resources that list the temperature details or allow comparisons with newer models. I'm open to making an educated guess based on these specifications.

I’m considering if a Chromebook or iPad could work for you. The first option is affordable and keeps things cool, while the second offers a cooler environment with better battery performance.

I should mention the model I listed earlier is a Chromebook, and I’d like another one. I discovered this more recent low-end HP model,
https://www.hp.com/ca-en/shop/product.as...BL&sel=NTB
The battery remains the same, but the CPU is 3.4 versus 1.6 before, and it has 4 cores instead of 2. Might a more capable CPU still maintain the same temperature if it’s newer and more efficient, or would the 3.4 performance become warmer? Also, is there a reliable source that provides temperature specifications for comparison?

Check out a used or refurbished Thinkpad T480. It features upgradable RAM and an SSD, comes with a Gen 8 Intel CPU, is compatible with Windows 11, is nearly bulletproof, and can be found for $200 to $300.

I’d prefer to own an older Brickpad T480, but I doubt that’s the best option. It’s a solid, tough laptop, yet it generates a fair amount of heat. A better alternative would be the Lenovo IdeaPad or something comparable. I currently have an IdeaPad 3 15" that works well as a mobile desktop—good for browsing, emails, and streaming. The heat is manageable while working on web development; gaming would make things warmer, but you didn’t mention playing games. If you’re looking for a fanless setup, the Evolve III Maestro E-Book is a lightweight, portable desktop suited for web browsing or email. I’m uncertain about its streaming capabilities since it’s mainly used for those tasks, and it’s positioned as a school or student laptop, similar to a Chromebook but runs Windows 10 Education.
