Oracle Virtualbox - Full screen, graphics cards, macOS support
I’m working on creating Virtual Machines with Oracle VirtualBox. I’m facing some technical challenges. There’s a graphics limit—via the command line, I can set 256MB of VRAM, but my Nvidia GT 1030 only has 2GB RAM. I’m also struggling with resolution issues on Server 2016, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu, where I can’t reach 1920x1080. My dual monitors are set up but not being used. I’m interested in running a Mac on a VM and have 16GB DDR3 RAM. I’m thinking about buying 32GB refurbished RAM to improve performance. Any advice would be appreciated!
To run VMs in fullscreen, you must add the Guest Additions driver to the guest operating system. From there, choose Devices > Install Guest Additions. This guide also references a helpful Stack Overflow post about installing it on macOS and Windows machines. If you need the GPU to appear as a real hardware device, consider enabling GPU passthrough. Running Windows as the host makes this option unavailable.
