Earlier this week I shared my experience with the Ryzen 9 3950X getting stuck on the AIO’s cold plate. With your help I was able to free the CPU without damaging any pins, though it did take a blow missing the mod mat and landing on my desk. Now I’m dealing with a serious problem—the second memory channel is fully nonfunctional. No matter the board or RAM I try, only one channel is recognized. After extensive troubleshooting, I’m convinced the issue lies with the 3950X itself. Would removing the CPU assist in diagnosing internal damage? Is there any possibility of repairing it? The memory controller is on a separate chiplet from the cores? What are some practical uses for PCs with just one memory channel? Minecraft server? Could I possibly sell this unit?
I noticed no visible damage, but it seems the pins are more likely to be the problem than the CPU die. You won’t be able to inspect it under the lid, and even if you could, you wouldn’t have the right tools or expertise to repair it. It’s probably a server setup for everyday desktop tasks like browsing and office work.
