Sure, for collaboration you're mostly limited to what others are using.

Lol...I’m sure I’ll definitely use this. If not for another reason than... Interestingly, the person who carried out the attack gave a Bond villain-like speech about how they did it, so there’s no confusion about this supposed cyber attack.

The problem with LibreOffice is that doesn't run Visual Basic for Applications
If you have to deal with Access/Excel/Word with embedded VBA, you have no choice.

Open Office is currently a project with limited activity, no new features have been added for many years. Libre Office offers some advantages, even though it doesn't fully support VBA—its python scripting capabilities are available, but only if all users use the same version; otherwise, MS Office likely won't run it. Still, there are several points worth mentioning when considering Libre Office:

It can be installed as a portable application (using portableapps), which means it doesn’t interfere with system settings or registry changes—just open the program and then access the file. Alternatively, you can create a shortcut linking to the executable and place .ods/.odt files on it.

It works on different operating systems. For example, using an old 2007 computer with Linux installed often allows full pre-installed Libre Office functionality. While it might not be extremely fast, it should handle tasks if the machine is capable.

Microsoft tends to charge more for features like a formula editor, making it difficult or impossible to use in academic or professional settings without additional costs. In contrast, Libre Office includes this feature natively (via the "Math" module), though you may need to adapt text-based workflows for finer control.

Regular expression search and replace are fully supported in Libre Office Calc, offering powerful text manipulation capabilities that could be added as an enhancement to MS Office.

Due to the widespread use of MS Office, the LibreOffice developers have invested significantly in creating tools that can read and write Microsoft file formats. (LibreOffice itself supports ISO 26300 "OpenDocument" files.) This leads to strong compatibility between LibreOffice and MS Office; each new release enhances this connection. While perfection isn't achieved, most users won't even realize they're working with a non-Microsoft application when collaborating with someone using MS Office. The newest iteration of LibreOffice might offer better support for the current versions of MS Office compared to older ones still in use.

However, certain advanced or specialized features in MS Office can lead to issues. It's worth mentioning that LibreOffice doesn't include Visual Basic for Applications, which may disrupt files that depend on macros. Additionally, recent rental versions of MS Office often default to a new font called Aptos. Since LibreOffice lacks this proprietary font, documents may appear distorted when it tries to substitute it. This problem could also affect older versions of MS Office, possibly prompting the need for Office 365 subscriptions.

Luckily, Aptos fonts are available for download and are standard TrueType fonts that function flawlessly with LibreOffice.

Hello!
You can purchase Microsoft Office at a significantly lower cost compared to the usual prices. For example, URCDKeys offers Office 2016 for just $37 with a perpetual license. Other trustworthy shops also provide Office 2019 at even more affordable rates. CEL.ro lists Office 2021 for only $5.

This does not imply anything regarding the terms of valid purchase and licensing from the publishing authority, Microsoft.
I could offer you a 75" Sony TV for $100 and provide an invoice.
This doesn't constitute a proper legal transaction.
Several articles have discussed the supposed legitimacy of offshore key sites like that.
Games and other licensed software such as Office also raise concerns about validity and legality.
