Optimized Mac Studio for demanding web usage
Hello, I'm currently using a Razer Blade Pro 17 (2020) with an Intel Core i7-10875H processor, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. My browser is Chromium-based, and I usually have around 5 GB of memory for it. I'm interested in switching to a desktop setup that offers more RAM. I considered the Mac Studio with 64GB RAM and also looked at Windows options, but I'm having trouble finding people who have similar usage patterns. I'm hoping to get advice from others about whether a Mac Studio with 64GB RAM performs well under heavy browser usage. Best regards, Jan Sürth
Are you mainly looking to browse or play games? The system needs to be compact. A Mac Studio remains quite large. You can upgrade RAM on your Razer or switch to a lighter browser. Investing 4k for web browsing is unnecessary.
This device could serve as either a substitute or an addition to your existing laptop.
Your MacBook Air (M1, base RAM) handles demanding browser tasks smoothly, almost effortlessly. For gaming on consoles or PCs, using a Mac as your primary system is an excellent choice.
Recently I realized I rarely played games outside the browser, like Mission Chief. When I do play, I stick to my old laptop or test them on a Mac. Mostly I use Emergency 2020, ETS2/ATS and other sims built with Unreal Engine. It doesn’t need to fit in my hand, but it shouldn’t be a huge tower—something like the NZXT H1 would work well. I might add more RAM, though I think upgrading is limited after that point. I bought it thinking I’d use it at work and travel often, but I didn’t plan that. That’s why I’m leaning toward a desktop setup overall.
Absolutely in agreement. I believe there are numerous advantages to distinguishing a gaming setup from a productivity setup, especially from a psychological perspective. This approach has consistently been my choice over the years.
Yes, definitely. You have a Mac, a Linux machine, and a Windows gaming PC—each has its own role!
I chose to upgrade the RAM as you recommended. It really made a big difference in easing the issues I was experiencing with the computer. Moving from 16 to 64 GB should give me more time on my laptop before the next step, but I’m still planning to switch to a full desktop.
