Optimize your Windows 10 performance for longer battery endurance.
You're considering switching from Windows 10 to Windows 8 for improved battery performance, despite your strong dislike for the latter. Have anyone noticed a battery improvement of 25% or higher? If not, you might want to reconsider the upgrade.
I don't believe the enhancements would significantly extend battery life.
It seems Windows 10 used more power and consumed more memory compared to Windows 8.1, especially when drivers were active. The system also struggled with RAM usage and kept the hard drive busy for longer periods.
Windows 10 introduces improved battery-saving options. Outcomes vary based on your hardware setup. I didn’t notice significant changes moving from 8.1 to 10. I wouldn’t suggest upgrading unless you’re prepared; a clean install might be better. Upgrading from 8.1 to 10 isn’t ideal, but it could resolve some issues. The interface isn’t fully polished yet, and many features are still under development. It will likely take several years before the new UI is completely ready.
This version is beta and may not meet your expectations. The battery performance might be similar or even worse. Expect some bugs and app crashes. Hold off on upgrading until it's officially released. You can also make the start menu full screen, which is useful. I find many great features, especially with universal apps in window mode. This lets you work seamlessly between desktop and windows apps without constantly switching or loading them separately.
I faced an issue where Windows 10 didn't match the layout of Windows 8's start screen, which was quite bothersome. Along with the updated icons and the frustrating settings interface, it pushed me back to using Windows 8 shortly after a few months ago.
Download BatteryInfoView to assess your battery's condition. Adjust your laptop's battery settings by running the PC until the battery is fully drained and then let it rest overnight. After waking it up, connect the device again and allow charging; it may need a few more hours once warm, and cooling will improve its capacity. Rechecking the wear level should improve accuracy, and if it’s under 80%, consider replacing it. Affordable laptop batteries are often available on Amazon, sometimes offering higher capacities than typical models.
