Which exact measurement is it? I’d go for the first one right away. Also, what’s the budget and where should it be?

The i5-7400 isn't the best CPU these days (it wasn't either when it first came out), but it's affordable near $100, which could cover a Ryzen 3 3100. You probably won't need much RAM, so think about selling it and replacing it with some budget DDR4 3000 or 3200 chips. The 1060 with 6GB remains solid for 1080p gaming; you might not need an upgrade based on the games you play and your performance goals.

It's a sad truth that boosting your new CPU might not actually speed up gaming. Consider the Ryzen 3300X/3600 with B450 and 3200 MHz RAM.

Consider adding a fresh PSU to the budget, as this could be a significant expense when planning an upgrade.

You're good with your current setup. For a CPU and motherboard upgrade under $300, look into budget options like the ASUS TUF Gaming or MSI MEG boards paired with an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 chipset. These provide solid performance without breaking the bank.
