The Ryzen chips don’t offer much room for overclocking, and pushing them usually harms single-core speed. It’s better to turn on PBO2 and adjust the curve with an undervolt setting. With this approach, my 5900X runs at around 4.6–4.625ghz across all cores and over 5ghz on a single core.
I really wouldn't bother with hand-crafted overclocks. Just make sure PBO and XMP are turned on in BIOS and you're all set. You can look up your motherboard and CPU pair to find any useful temperature adjustments, but otherwise let the system auto-tune through PBO.
Skiiwee29 has a point. Reducing the voltage on Zen 3 provides the CPU with more thermal and power capacity, allowing PBO to perform effectively. However, applying a per-core adjustment is necessary—most stable all-core settings are hard to achieve without sacrificing too much speed. Doing it one at a time will take more time, but the benefits are significant.
I adjusted the Curve Optimizer to -20 on every core and turned on PBO. Everything works fine—Cinebench R23 keeps steady at around 4.7GHz with all cores, achieving 81–82 c max. That’s more than enough for me.
It really depends on how you use your PC. If you mainly play games and are a regular user, PBO is ideal. If you often handle heavy calculations, an all-core CPU is better. Running an all-core setup will boost performance by several hundred MHz at the top end, though it won’t make a big difference if you’re not doing intensive work. There’s a lot to gain either way.
this claim seems questionable based on current information. as of august 2022, Ryzen Master doesn't appear to support significant overclocking for the R5 2600 beyond modest adjustments. achieving higher speeds would likely require more advanced hardware or techniques, which aren't straightforward without specialized tools. The idea that older chips like the 2600 are inherently limited is partially true, but modern users often find ways to push performance through careful tuning and cooling solutions.
Using PBO offers the best results for single-core speed, full-load performance and everything in between. For instance, tweaking my 5950x to all-core output might give me 1.15v and 4400MHz, but I'm limited to that core speed even with just one core. Adjusting PBO and the optimizer could push me to around 4350MHz at full load, though it means a slight drop in single-core performance—but I can exceed 5000MHz there! A massive gap in single-core results.
